Produced primarily in the testes, testosterone is the dominant hormone responsible for development of masculine characteristics. It’s what makes a man a man. Testosterone is responsible for bone density, fat distribution, muscle mass, red blood cell production, the production of sperm, and sex drive.
After the age of 30, sometimes even by the age of 27 or 28, hormones in the body, testosterone and thyroid, start to drop by 1 – 2% every year. So, by the time you hit 40 or 45 or 50, you could be 15 – 20% down from where you were when you were 24 or 25. After the age of 36, every man should have his testosterone and other hormone levels checked.
